I just noticed an interesting thread over at Velospace regarding frame coatings so I put in my tip about 1-Shot. Anybody have a trick or tip for painting a frame?
Powdercoat is nice but lacquer has shine that can’t be beat. You can see my paintjob on two bikes I’ve posted, labeled as Russ,Louisville.I use Duplicolor spray paint in a rattle can from the auto parts store. Then gloss clearcoat with Duplicolor engine enamel. The auto paint gives a larger color choice and metallics. The clear is high heat for engines and is more durable than rustoleum or krylon.Materials for a frame cost no more than 20.00 and its as durable as factory finish.Just one mans opinion. Thanks,Russ
I like rattlecan Appliance Epoxy, it’s super durable and not much prep is needed ie. paint right over the old stuff. Don’t try to clearcoat this stuff, the clearcoat will chip and bring the epoxy off with it.
Only problem is it’s only available in four colors, Black white, almond, and bisque.
Bisque sounds like a nice ‘vintage’ color but it’s not, it’s the color of pus.
I just painted mine it should be up in the next couple of days as Casey’s Windor (compare the new black to the old white). I sanded down the white to nearly the metal but left on a bit of old stuff and put on a coat of primer then several layers of whatever color you want. Worked like magic and dried in a few hours.
spray paint that shit than throw it in the oven…
