"this is an early 80s Schwinn I bought, frame only - that I had the brazons ground off and powder coated. One of my setbacks was I had to buy a new fork. The original was a 1" threaded and it required a 21.15 quill stem - those are rare enough and I wanted one in black, so I had to replace the fork with one that took a 22.2 quill stem. I got a deal on a Campy track crank and bought a new bottom bracket and headset. A friend of mine got me a deal on some black Velocity Deep Vs (it helps living in Grand Rapids where they assemble the wheels) finished it off with a black leather Brooks seat and a mustache bar. The brake is temporary until I get more comfortable riding fixed. The front crank is a 51 and the rear is a 20 - we've had snow and I haven't had too much of a chance to ride it yet - but its getting warmer every day!"
sweet ride!
nice
cool yellow jacket
I love orange
Lovin the orange and bars with the deep v wheels…..rockin.
Looks fantastic. Nice job!
sweet bike rudy.
Nice work.
You should’ve went with canuter valves instead of the quill type apparatus. Any NASA space scientist would know this. I would have went with the 40 crank myself. Much better in all ranges of the mass to energy equivalence factors involved with the range of motion that, frankly, a 51 could never produce. Furthermore… What did you say?
Looks like it’s already heading down Cherry Street towards Founders!
Let’s ride, this is still the perfect color schemed bike. Jealous!
Reminds me of that movie “breaking Away” where a rag tag bunch of kids clean up a bike and win some big race. This might refresh our fading memories. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078902/
Sweet ride! Diggin the orange.
Nice looks like I bike I could wreck silly!
I recently aquired a very similar Schwinn Varsity (70′s) and was curious about the replacement of the headset. Not really interested in keeping the old parts. Just curious what type of new age headset would be compatible…
Nice bike, I live in GR, I will be looking for it on the streets.
